Viewpoint of Kounopetra

The southernmost part of Paliki peninsula is a place for an interesting geographical phenomenon, known as Kounopetra or ‘the moving rock’. This rocky area is one of the smallest and less visited viewpoints Kefalonia island, which offer panoramic views to the unique grey cliffs of Paliki.

Kounopetra viewpoint is the end of the road near Kounopetra beach, and there are a few places to park your car. The lookout is literally on the rocks, where you can read the short story of the place on an information board, which introduce travellers to the phenomenon of the moving rock.

The legend of the moving stone of Kounopetra is true, there is a stone at the lookout, which slowly moved (vibrated) until the earthquake of 1953. Today an other stone moves very slowly, just few steps away from the original stone.
