The southeast bay of Kefalonia island is a long, wide and sandy coast, which is called Mounda beach. This bay is one of the most famous places in Kefalonia island among environmentalists and pet lovers, because in the sand of Mounda beach is visited often not just by the beachers, but also by Caretta Caretta turtles.

The turtles of Kefalonia arrive here to make nests in the sand, and during late summer weeks the small turtles hatch and head towards the sea.
