Kefalonia is habitated since ancient eras: one of the oldest historical evidences of the island are the Mycenaean Tombs of Mazarakata, known as the Mycenaean Cemetery. This small, but interesting Mycenaean Necropolis is very important archeologically not just in Kefalonia, but also in the Ionian Islands, because in this region of Greece these types of burial sites are extremely rare.
