Sami, Kefalonia

Sami (Σάμη) is the largest town on the east coast of Kefalonia island, Greece with an important ferry port, long seaside promenade and a lot of tourist services. The town and its surroundings are one of the oldest inhabitated areas of Kefalonia. Greek archeologists were discovered the Acropolis of Ancient Sami, which fluorished more than 2000 years ago, and after the fall of the town Roman Empire were developed the area with baths and villas well.

Today Sami is a calm, but interesting settlement, which is situated directly next to a long and wide bay, opposite Agia Efimia village. It is one of the most famous filming locations of Kefalonia, because in Sami and in its area was shot a lot of scenes of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
