Best features of Myrtos beach
In Kefalonia Myrtos beach is one of the most beautiful places, due to its geographical conditions. Imagine a huge bay at the foot of two high mountains, where dazzling white pebbles meet turquoise coloured waters, and the sea brings out all shades of blue. A lot of travellers say that the scenery of Myrtos is like a painting, where the nature is the artist, and impress all the visitors.

The incredible colours of the sea are due to the dazzling white limestone, which is quite common in the area of this beach in Kefalonia Island. The waves of the Ionian Sea wash the limestone pebbles of the beach, and the sea colours are more intense, as the waves are getting bigger.
From Myrtos beach viewpoints and lookouts (which are located high above the beach) you can see when the water is calm, and when the waves are big. When you see the blue colours are incredible vivid, there are significant waves on the beach.

A lot of travellers write in their blogs and travel guides, that by visiting Myrtos beach you will find only pebbles, but that’s usually not true exactly. There is also fine limestone sand in some parts of the beach, only it’s rare. Myrtos deepens quite quick, you can walk just about 3-4 meters in the water and after you have to swim. Swimming shoes are optional to wear, but if you have sensitive soles, due to the pebbles these can be useful.
In the central part of Myrtos you can rent some umbrellas and sunbeds during summer season, and sometimes a small beach bar also awaits for guests for refreshing drunk or snack. It’s worth to known that in recent years there were a few occasions, when the beach has not even been developed in any way by mid-summer.

Myrtos beach offer magical sunsets in Kefalonia, because the sun paints the beach and its surroundings into orange shades. And a little extra: did you know that Myrtos beach is also a movie star? There is a few scene in the Hollywood movie Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, when the Italian soldiers sing and enjoy their life in Kefalonia. This scene was shot here, with the next scenes when a Turkish bomb was found and it was detonated.

The amazing photos of Myrtos beach are favourite by many travellers due the sea colours and the beautiful natural scenery. Myrtos beach photos are iconic in Kefalonia -Island and in Greece, a lot of travel guides introduce the island through the images of this incredible place.

For the the best photos it’s worth to visit the viewpoints above, but also the images which were shot directly on beach are also great. We like this place very much, because its natural scenery is beautiful, and the colours of the beach are really amazing when the sun shines.
It’s important to know that for snorkeling and diving there are much better options than this place. Other local beaches have much vibrant marine life, such as Petani beach or Antisamos beach, but if you have diving goggles and the sea is calm, you can try a snorkel here.
We strongly suggest a trip to here and spend a few hours to discover Myrtos beach, because this place belongs definitely to the best attractions of the island, which you should not to miss on your holiday!
