Nudist beaches in Kefalonia Island Greece, naturism

Kefalonia Island in Greece has not just crystal-clear waters, dramatic cliffs and endless calm, but also offers some options for those interested in enjoying the island’s beauty as naturists. While Greece doesn’t have official nudist beaches, Kefalonia has a few FKK beaches which are suggested and visited often by naturists, and those who are looking for a clothing-optional experience.

These FKK spots in Kefalonia are often more secluded and less crowded, providing the privacy and tranquility that nudists appreciate. It’s worth to know that most of the abandoned beaches, which are best for naturism in Kefalonia, are harder to reach than others, and most of these requires hiking. Now let’s see the best naturist beaches of Kefalonia Island, which can be recommended for nudist travellers.

Platia Ammos beach

Let’s start with a very special beach, which is listed often as one of the most interesting naturist beaches in Kefalonia. The amazing Platia Ammos beach is one of Kefalonia’s most scenic beaches, known for its stunning natural beauty and remote location on the island’s western coast, in the area of Lixouri. This beach is surrounded by high cliffs, giving it a secluded feel, which can be ideal for nudists. And now the bad news, because this beach changed in recent years a lot. Nowadays Platia Ammos beach is very difficult to access, because an earthquake a dew years ago ruined the stairs which led down the sea from the heights.

In these days the stairs are in ruined condition, and to walk down you must climb on a very steep and extremely dangerous path. This remoteness and difficulty is part of its appeal for nudists who seeking extreme privacy, but as you can see, the forces of nature can form the shapes of the beaches even in these days.

With its crystal clear waters, Platia Ammos beach is perfect for naturists who want a peaceful beach experience, but now it is recommended only for the most determined people – the path which leads down makes it probably the most dangerous footpaths of the island. Due to this remoteness Platia Ammos beach is totally unorganized, there are no such facilites.

The southermost spots of Skala beach (known also as Spithi beach)

The most abandoned places for nudists in Skala village can be find at the cliffs on the southern areas. This area is known as Spithi beach according to some local maps, and it is definitely one of the most relevant naturist beaches in Kefalonia Island. The rocks of the beach form small bays at some places, making tiny hidden bays.

To reach this nudist section of Skala beach is not too difficult, just walk on the beach into south direction a few hundres meters, and you will see giant rocks. When the sea surface is calm, this place is great for snorkeling also!

As you can see on the photos, the seabed and the shore is here mostly filled by pebbles and rocks, with a few areas which are covered by coarse sand.

Lefka beach (FKK)

Another naturist beach in Kefalonia, located between Koroni beach and Sissia beach. Lefka beach is an abandoned place often even in the summer months, and visited usually just for a few nudists, because it can be reached only by boat or by hiking. Mostly Lefka FKK beach is not even signed on the road, but some maps mention it as a nudist beach of Kefalonia Island. The hiking path is approx. 1,5 km long to the beach from the hills of the coast, and it is not recommended for vehicles, because road conditions are usually extreme poor (narrow dirt road, which is eroded often by the rains of the colder months).

In Kefalonia Lefka FKK beach is recommended for naturists who spend their holiday in the area of Skala, Lourdata, etc, because these southern villages are the nearest. An important info that Lefka beach is completely unorganized.

Koroni beach (Remote ends)

Another beach in the south coast, which is recommended for naturism in Kefalonia Island. Koroni beach is a gem for everyone, but in off seasons it can be suggested as a nudist beach, while during hot summer months only its remote end is the place for naturists – if the beach is not filled. But Koroni beach is usually visited by fewer people, because the road conditions are varied, and a lot of people don’t hear about this gem.

The sandy shore and shallow waters create a relaxed atmosphere, and its quiet location means that it’s rarely crowded, offering nudists a peaceful setting to enjoy the sun and sea. In recent years sometimes there can be rented a few parasols and sunbeds, in this case the central area is not an FKK.

Sissia beach (FKK)

Sissia beach is listed often as one of the recommended naturist beaches in Kefalonia Island. This FKK beach is situated just a few kilometers away from Lorurdata, on the south coast. Sissia beach can be reached via narrow path, which leads to the sea from Sissia Monastery. From the monastery the path is about 1,1 km long, which means the walk takes about 25-30 minutes down to the beach.

One of the best features of Sissia FKK beach for nudists is that the beach is long enough with its length of 300 meters. This place is visited by naturists often even during summer months, so it is known as one of the most recommended nudist beaches in Kefalonia by travellers. Usually Sissia beach is totally unorganized.

Mounda beach (Remote areas)

Mounda Beach is situated near Skala village, and it is well known as a protected nesting ground for local loggerhead turtles and is undeveloped at many places, which adds to its appeal for naturists. The beach stretches for several kilometers, offering ample space for visitors to find a quiet, private spot. The remote ends of Mounda Beach (the southern areas) are frequented by nudists, especially in the early morning or late afternoon.

However, it’s essential to respect the turtle nesting areas and avoid disturbing the sand dunes.

Kanali beach

Kanali beach is also mentioned often as a naturist beach near Lourdata and Vlachata, but during high season this place is visited much more by travellers, than Sissia or Lefka FKK beaches.

Crocodile beach (FKK)

In the area of Lassi the north beaches are the most recommended places for naturists, because these bays are slightly far away from the most crowded areas. The small bays of Crocodile beach are usually FKK beaches near Lassi Hotel, but sometimes these places are hard to reach by walking, due to the high cliffs, and it can be accessed only by swimming. The white rocks and shallow, emerald coloured sea make these places interesting, and also this area is highly recommended for snorkeling.

An important info: water shoes may needed here, because of the rocks and pebbles of the shallow seabed.

Dafnoudi Beach (in off season)

Located near the village of Fiskardo in northern Kefalonia, Dafnoudi Beach is accessible only by a short walk through a forested path, which adds to its secluded charm. The beach has a mix of sand and pebbles and is nestled within a cove, providing a private feel. Naturists often gravitate to the more isolated ends of Dafnoudi beach, especially during quieter times.

When the sea is calm, this beach is also ideal for snorkeling, with its clear, calm waters and rocky underwater scenery. In recent years from June to mid September Dafnoudi is visited much by everyone.

Naturist Etiquette on Kefalonia’s Beaches

Because there are no officially designated nudist beaches in Kefalonia, it’s important to follow respectful naturist practices. On the beaches which are signed on maps as Kefalonia Island’s FKK beaches or we listed above as a naturist friendly beach in Kefalonia, please follow the rules below.

  • If you undress, stay on the remote sections: stick to the quieter or remote ends of popular beaches or more secluded beaches entirely, as these are areas where naturism is more accepted. On the central areas of the beaches nudism is not accepted at all.
  • Be mindful of other beachgoers: since some beaches are mixed-use, be considerate of local Greek families and other visitors, especially children. If you’re unsure whether nudism is acceptable, just observe the crowd or ask a local.
  • Bring your own essentials: many of Kefalonia’s nudist-friendly beaches are undeveloped, so always bring water, snacks, a towel, and any other necessities, which are important for you. Most of the naturist-listed beaches have no natural shade during the day (or often busy by others), so a parasol may also needed.
  • Always keep your environment clean, and watch out for the nests of turtles: do not let any waste on the beaches! Please avoid disturbing or destroying the natural surroundings, especially on beaches that are turtle nesting sites. The Caretta Caretta turtles are nesting on many of the southern beaches, where the shore is sandy or filled by coarse sand. Fortunately these nesting places are signed or encircled by local experts.
